Engaging the Latin American market

The Latin American region has seen exceptional growth in the last three years. In 2007 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Latin America and the Caribbean rose 46% to a record US$105.92 billion as a result of economic growth and global demand for natural resources.

In terms of total FDI, Brazil led the region, capturing $34.59 billion in outside investment. Latin America’s largest economy was followed by Mexico, Chile and Colombia, all of which saw double-digit growth in capital flows compared with 2006.

Brazil is a leader in the developing world and plays an instrumental role in various South-South initiatives like the India-Brazil-South Africa Summit. Brazilian companies are also rapidly entering the international market and Africa is the focal point of this internationalization.
